The Remote Control Advantage
Modern heat pumps with smartphone apps (Mitsubishi MELCloud, Daikin Online Controller, etc.) can be controlled remotely from anywhere. This is ideal for second homes — you can start heating your cottage from your phone on the drive down, arriving to a warm property.
Frost Protection
When the property is unoccupied in winter, set the heat pump to frost protection mode (12–15°C). This keeps pipes from freezing while consuming minimal electricity.
Rural Properties
Many second homes and holiday cottages are in rural areas, currently heated by oil or LPG. These properties can benefit enormously from heat pumps — oil and LPG running costs are high, and the BUS grant applies to replacing these fuels.
Economics
If the property is let as a holiday cottage, energy running costs are typically passed on. A heat pump reduces those costs and adds an eco-friendly selling point to rental listings.
